A Promontory Homeowner Story - How one downsizer discovered that less space means more freedom. Living Large at Promontory When Linda McDade moved into Promontory at Bayview Place last month, she was downsizing for the second time. Over 10 years ago she had moved from house to a condo, both in Toronto. “The house was too big for me. I was living there by myself, and it was 2,600 square feet,” she explains. “I had always wanted to live down by the lake. I drove past one day, and I saw they had built new condos, and I thought, ‘I’m going to buy one.’” So she did —1,150 square feet with two bedrooms and two baths. At Promontory she still has two bedrooms and two baths but is down to 938 square feet of floor space. She donates excess furniture to charity. “We have far too much stuff and clutter, and it’s very good to get rid of it,” she says. “I wouldn’t go back to a house because I don’t want the maintenance anymore.” Moving from Toronto to Victoria was an even bigger decision. She had been visiting twice a year and “just loved it so much. It’s so different from Toronto.” It took her two years to decide to move, but once Promontory was built, she sold her condo in Toronto, arrived in Victoria a week later and bought her new home. “It’s a fabulous condo and it’s very well built,” she says. “You know when you go into a place and you find details that perhaps haven’t been finished correctly but here, I’m very impressed with the way the interior has been finished.” Windows are floor-to-ceiling and “they give you blinds here,” says Linda. “In Toronto they don’t.” Plus the bathrooms are “gorgeous. We women tend to like bathrooms.” The kitchens are equally impressive and include composite stone countertops, a glass backsplash and oak cabinets. Living on the seventh floor facing the ocean, she enjoys sitting on her balcony watching the cruise ships coming in and out. “The balcony is twice as big as the one I had in Toronto,” she says. “It’s glorious!” On a high point in Victoria West, Promontory at Bayview Place rises 21 storeys above the city with impressive harbour and mountain views in a vibrant, waterfront neighbourhood, all just minutes from downtown. Homes feature large windows and balconies, Bosa Properties’ signature smart floor plans, stunning interiors, thoughtful details like Miele and AEG Electrolux appliances, air conditioning and a parking stall. Promontory is close to the seawall and the Galloping Goose Trail for year-round cycling and jogging, near the harbour for all-season kayaking, and surrounded by cafés, restaurants and green space. The heritage brick Roundhouse nearby is already emerging as a venue for food festivals and other events, and future plans for the neighbourhood include a proposed public market and grocery store. The Promontory Sales Centre and Display Home are located at 83 Saghalie Road, open noon to 6 p.m. daily. Homes start at just $242,900 and are ready to move into.
