A QUEST TO QUENCH THE THIRST OF EARTH When we step back a little in the past, our shallow open wells and not so deep bore wells were flourished in water, because of the natural rain water harvesting mechanism with the roots of trees. The innumerable web feet of the trees just hold the water for long and became the greatest reservoir of water. But today when the trees are being chopped off, and the ways are being paved off, the percolation of rain water into the soil is almost totally stopped. This is the time for going back to the nature. The rain water harvesting is the simple collection of storing rain water through scientific technique from the areas where the rainfalls. It fructifies the utilisation of rain water for domestic need, agricultural purposes and to recharge the underground water table. Harvesting rain drops must be a habit for the coming generation, in order to be away from the catastrophe of “Sands dry sky”. It is the best possible way to conserve water and awaken the society towards the importance of water and my advice to anyone who wants to get started living more sustainably is to start with rainwater-harvesting. Start at the top. Start small. But above all—start!
