A R T E S I A B O T A N I C A L O A S I S D R E A M I N G T he core elements for the future ideal livhere ing site for a family of choice are of course composed with an essential focus on LIFEFORCE LIVING. That, for us, is a thriving and biodiverse mix of food and forest that rustles and bustles in the trade winds that abound along a path with a generous amount of sunshine. We thrive and the earth thrives as we may assist. The ancient Hawaiians thought they were the “eyes of the land “ maka aina...just that...and as such could move the little pieces around with skill. The bigger lifeforce was in the hands of Gaia. We at Arcturus Proto-World Design began with a three acre pasture in the green hills of North Kohala at 1100 feet of elevation in a mild climate with 10-14 knots of fairly steady wind. We aimed that wind thru meandering corridors til our botanical oasis became the sound of lifeforce itself. The instruments of course were the varying shapes of the leaves as teased by the wind. Not only that but pure waters deep in the soil were coaxed up by a Lemurian shaman lady ... coaxed up from 600 hundred feet from the surface under the earth herself. This land had born sugar cane for awhile so there were some zones that needed recovery from chemicals. Happily we had plenty of topsoil unlike much of the rest of our volcanic island Hawaii nei. First, we focused on grandfather trees like the great Banyan that we opened up to builtda stone bridge entrance right thru the middle. Then terra forming created an amphi-theatre and a scaled down landscape was sculpted into ponds and hillocks so as you could feel a perfect place for the elementals, faeries, and manahune. The little people. Scale is a big part of charm! Then groupings of trees created seven micro forests each with a character all its own. Often the grand father trees would anchor a grove and then all those high points in the sky would be separated by tiny sanctuaries. There grew 156 fruiting trees and over 60 timber trees ...including 7 varieties of bamboo that we now harvest to build with. Gardens appeared to provide 15 small plots with a great variety of food, herbs, and flowers. Then the birds came...over a dozen species feed each day where we can all watch if we want to. Cardinals and canaries and Java sparrows that look like puffins are among the colorful mix. We have selectively added people to this mix. One family and a handful of eclectic others have nestled into the peaceful zone towards the end of the land. Smallish houses and portable dwellings create a shirelike hamlet where no one sees anothers building and the openings leave plenty of sky and an occasional sunset. Now a circle of tipis is going up to help the woofers land for a spell during harvest. The tipis contribute a joyful and playful air with their painted symbols and signs. They sit near the amphi-theatre where 25 mini-festivals have paraded thru the local talents and dressed up for renaissance fairs. Between those book ends there is an orchard loaded with tropical fruits of note. Then scattered throughout the land are avocados, bananas, coconuts, papayas, and a mix of berry trees. The open pathways or corridors are wide enough to move thru with vehicles and still stay green enuf for pasture. Nubian goats may soon work these streams of green sporting grass and false peanut with little yellow flowers. Sculpture, flags and giant flower arrangements create not one but a dozen viewplanes. Beauty appears because every green being is associated with others that eventually define compositional settings of great charm. People who look for conscious settlements like findhorn will find that the number of seasons that have built the magic forested zones each have a separate story ...its hard to find a cookie cutter community. You must come and vibe in with nature and the family assembled. At Artesia we strive to be human beings. Aloha is another word for lead with your heart. And we do!
