A REQUEST FOR CLARITY PLEASE: Dear RUTT, The following - TopicsExpress

A REQUEST FOR CLARITY PLEASE: Dear RUTT, The following statement is sent on behalf of the regions TT riders, who yesterday learned of the cancelling of your scheduled Open 25 on Sunday. There is a lengthy thread building on the SW Time Trials page relating to this Sundays 25 which appears at this stage to have been cancelled. The cancellation of your clubs open 25 at short notice and with no explanation has come as a great disappointment to the regions riders, many of whom this event plays a major part in their seasons goals. To simply read a line on a social media site saying ‘Sorry it’s cancelled’ doesn’t really seem sufficient given the amount of time and effort that riders have put into getting ready for events like this. There are a number of questions that the riders would like to see answered please. Cancelling the event due to having just 10 riders would indeed be reason enough to cancel the event with the approval of the district committee (this was the reason your club used for cancelling your event last year); and the riders would only have themselves to blame; however we do know that 10 entries is not the case. A significant number of riders have stated that they have entered using the online system and have received confirmation of the entry. Given that EWCC have currently received 70+ for their event in a weeks time, and the MDCC approaching 50 entrants for an event almost a month away lends weight to this argument. If there is an issue with the IE system a call to the right person can rectify this quickly and avoid disappointment. Given that the RUTT event was cancelled in similar circumstances a year ago, I’m certain that the clubs committee and leadership will have stayed very close to this event, and offered support to the organiser to ensure something similar didn’t happen again this year. The online entry system is simple to use for an event organiser – full instructions will have been sent to the organiser by Keith Lawton, including a simple ‘link’ to click that takes the organiser to the correct place on the CTT site. To view and download those entered is a 15 second task. Has the online entry been checked? Presumably the event organiser has been checking the online entries as the event grows near – in the event that there were no entries what action was taken? Did the committee step in? Was the SWDC asked for help? Was the national secretary Keith Lawton contacted to investigate any possible IE issue? Has the SWDC Committee approved the cancelling of the event? Given the fact that the club will have made arrangements for Sundays event – namely booking the Event HQ, arranging timekeepers and marshals, and notifying the clubs membership of the impending promotion, all of the logistics are already in place for the event to go ahead. To pull together a start sheet and upload to the CTT site, from the data held on the IE system amounts to an hours work. Given that the riders are ‘ready to race’ and have made plans for Sundays event , RUTT should really be pulling out all of the stops to get this back on track. Like anything in life when there is will there is a way, and with a little leadership and team spirit anything is possible. Please do let us know your actions. We look forward to receiving your response. The SW TT Community
