"A Sacramento law firm with ties to political committees that have been primarily funded by the developer of homes surrounding the Great Park was recently hired by the group calling itself Build the Great Park Now which wants Irvine’s City Council to approve the developer’s plan to build the rest of the park. . . The firm has represented numerous political causes including changing the state’s electoral college voting system in what critics said would favor Republican presidential candidates. It also was paid $1 million to advise Meg Whitman in her failed bid for California governor. The firm’s address, and one of its attorneys Ashlee Titus, are listed as the address and agent for the Build the Great Park Now corporation according to information filed with the Secretary of State on Aug. 14. The same address, and Titus, are listed as the address and assistant treasurer for the Friends of the Great Park Political Action Committee, formed late last year a month before the November election, as well as the Friends of the Great Park Education Committee. The latter group supported the Measure BB campaign which directed the city to send extra funds for the next few years to the city’s schools. . . Lemmon said he didn’t know the Sacramento firm had also represented the Friends of the Great Park Political Action Committee and the Friends of the Great Park Education Committee. Heritage Fields El Toro LLC, the company formed by the developer to build housing surrounding the park, donated $50,000 in late June, one of only two donations in the first six months of this year and far larger than the only other donation, a $2,500 contribution from an individual. On the same date, June 27, Heritage Fields donated $100,000 to the political action committee. Last year, the developer donated $200,000 to the education committee . . . Lemmon . . . was the chief operating officer of Facilities Management West, which attempted to buy the Orange County fairgrounds for $100 million until the state appeals court struck down the sale . . .
