A Senegalese Man One Morr, Who Was Accused Of Stealing By A Gambian Lady Killed Himself After Jumping Into The Banjul Sea While Being Handcuffed By The Police! Police Seargents On Duty Arrested And Charged; Senegalese High Commission Staff Visited the Scene Of the Crime By Pa Nderry MBai A Senegalese national with the first name Morr, who was accused of stealing by a Gambian lady, and was under the custody of the Banjul terminal police has committed suicide by jumping into the river with a handcuff visible on his hands, the Freedom Newspaper can report. Morr was booked overnight by the police stationed at the Banjul terminal. The incident happened last night. A woman accused Morr of stealing. Morr has denied the charges. He became upset, when the police refused to release him and allowed his accuser to go home even though Morr has repeatedly protested about his innocence while under police custody. While in custody, Morr threatens to commit suicide if the police fail to set him free. He became violent and he started knocking his head on the wall and shouting at the police. The police later decided to handcuff him. While being handcuffed, Morr managed to walk out of the station unnoticed. The officers on duty were either sleeping, or not paying attention to their surroundings. Morr then walked straight to the ram, in which the ferries normally docked and jumped into the river while he was still on handcuff. His remains are yet to be accounted for. There is a search team dispatched on sea to look for Morrs body. Meanwhile, the police Sergeants and the other officers on duty on the night of the incident have been arrested including one Sergeant Tamba. They have been charged with negligence to duty among other offenses. The remaining Sergeants have been moved to other stations, our source hinted. Officials of the Senegalese High Commission in Banjul have been notified about Morrs death. The High Commissioner and his staff visited the police and they are working with the Gambian authorities to ensure that Morrs body is accounted for and the culprits behind his death face the full brunt of the law.
