A ‘Service’ towards nation Cycling 40kms a day on an average, my contribution towards India’s economy, I am able to cut the use of petrol by a litre a day and thus 365 litres a year. 1litre a day ~ 365 litres in a year (fiscal year – a financial year) 365 litres of petrol ~ 912 litres of crude oil at 40% production; crude oil produces 35-42% petrol depending upon the quality of crude oil. India needs to import these 912 litres of crude oil. 160 litres* = 1 US barrel 912 litres = 5.7 US barrel Market value of crude oil $ 105 a barrel Conversion rate, 1 US dollar = 60 rupees So for my use, India is spending – 5.7 * 105 * 60 = 36000 Indian rupee (not including the refining cost and transport cost); may be much higher than this when included. From 2011 census data – population in the age group 21-44 years = 37 crore 37 lakh 72 thousand 9 hundred 51 (373772951) Population growth rate = 1.3 % So, present (2013-14) population, compound growth rate, in that range group = 38 crore 35 lakh 54 thousand 2 hundred 08 (383554208). Hoping, everyone, in this bracket, is healthy – physically, mentally, socially and spiritually – and able to pedal 40kms a day, #we can save upto* 383554208 * 36000 = 13,807,951,488,000 rupees in a fiscal. And more importantly, “I” can’t be “WE” until you, you, you... and I join hands together towards a objective - “Sustainable Inclusive Economic Growth Of India - A Power”. Disclaimer and Conditions apply: Some calculations are made to approximation for ease. In whole, this is my view and opinion. And in my opinion, a doctor’s role should not be limited to diagnosis and treatment of diseases. His/her every word and action, in some sort, should provoke, encourage and motivate people to think for the society and for the cause of peoples.
