“A Sign of the Times” by Mike Vick Our yards and streets Are no longer safe well kept or neat Things are miserable dark dreary and bleak There is a thick sense of despair in the air Jobs here are hard to find Thus, black neighborhoods are now infested or stacked With guns heroin weed and crack Every time a child leaves their mother’s side She trembles sighs and worries This is a sad but ongoing story Throughout our communities, our elders are leery to come out of the house Living in fear and captivity It is terrible to be fearful of children You know or even raised However, is better to be afraid Then go to an early grave Many innocent residents have died due to drive byes In neighborhoods like yours and mines, Sadly these are -- “A Sign of the Times” Television has given some of our young The vision -- of living a luxurious life through crime While it has driven just as many to try an alternative life style Today there’s no shame in going both ways “He” wants to be a “She” – and vise versa It’s become commonplace to see two women kiss and embrace Just as men -- 5’ feet 10” Dress in heals and carrying purses How can we find enjoyment? In the midst of all of this, Crime --- gender confusion -- and unemployment “A Sign of the Times”
