A Story about Risk & Telling a Stranger Life Giving Words by Mary DeMuth She walked into the restaurant, and I felt in that moment she was stunning. Mustve been about 70 years old, impeccably dressed, elegant, and just so very beautiful. Go tell her shes beautiful. Really, Lord? I mean, Im in this restaurant, and its crowded, and people are all around. I dont know her. Dont you think thats a bit awkward? I made a little bargain with God in that moment. She sat across from a menu, obviously waiting for someone to show. If someone came and occupied the seat, I would officially be off the hook. Funny the bargains we strike with the Almighty. But no one came. Did I hear the laughter of God? The friend I had been dining with stood up, as did I. Ill just be a second, I told her. I need to do something really quick. So I walked over to the beautiful lady. Excuse me, I said. You dont know me, and I know this is kind of awkward, but I just felt like I needed to tell you that you are so beautiful. She smiled. What? I felt you needed to know. Well, what is your name? she asked. Mary. She shook my hand and told me her name. Thank you, she said. But Im so old. I dont have people telling me things like that. You are beautiful, I said. You are beautiful too, she said. Inside and out. I said goodbye and left the restaurant, so joyfully ecstatic that God had whispered such a simple thing to me, and that I had chosen (after deliberation) to obey. I mean, how hard is it to tell someone shes beautiful? And maybe I should spend my life doing things like that. The moral of the story? If God prompts you to encourage a stranger, jump outside your comfort zone and do it. What about you? Have you ever told a stranger something you felt God wanted him/her to hear?
