~ A TRIBUTE TO VERNON SIMPSON ~ by Stephen Simpson, President, CSM Thinking today of my Grandpa Simpson, who would have been 103 years old today. He showed us what it meant to love and follow Jesus with joy and purpose. He showed us what it meant to be a good husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather ... that man loved his family fiercely and prayed for us all relentlessly. He showed what the heart of a shepherd looks like in the way he cared for Gods people, and also for those who wandered. He was tireless in doing good and in selfless sacrifice. He had a jolly, booming, contagious laugh. He loved fun, pranks, and comedy. He was a very wise, tough, and experienced leader, but he never lost his child-like simple faith. He could be speaking of the most deep, complex, and spiritual issues and suddenly stop and say, Oh, I wish youd look at that pretty flower! My, my ... isnt God good! He liked Billy Graham, Johnny Cash, John Wayne, and Ronald Reagan ... and Slim Whitman. He liked his coffee strong and sweet, which is pretty much how he was. I miss him every day and thank God with smiles and tears that I will see him again one day in eternity.
