A Tachi made by a modern master smith during the Showa Era (early 1940s ) , Minamoto Nissin ( one of two twin brother sword smiths in the Iwate Prefecture of Japan). Mounted in a traditional Army Gunto Koshirae with a Leather Field scabbard cover and Army Officer tassel. This blade was exhibited at a museum exhibit of swords for Iwate Prefecture in the Chuo Municipal Hall and Center in Morioka, Japan. Acquired from my tosho /polisher Yoshiada Abe san, he polished this blade for the museum exhibit and described it as almost perfect in proportions, jigane and jihada composition, balance, except for slightly different patterns in the kissaki / boshi area where the turnback of the hamon in this tip area of sword slightly differs from the pronounced tskukaji pattern on one side of the swords face(tip) , but not symmetrical on the other side. It reminds me of the fictionally named sword Danzan or the Separator from the Wolverine movie used by that bad ass female character ideal for separating ones body parts from others. Abe san , who is a 7th generation tosho/ polisher, told me his family used to make these type of gunto type koshirae / leather field scabbards. I truly admire this blade and am glad I can be a custodian for its care and preservation.
