A Thought from Mrs. Duttry Psalms 61:5 For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Most of our family came together in Tennessee the summer of 2007. We rented a lodge that would comfortably accommodate the almost two dozen of us. Our time was spent preparing meals and sharing dinner conversation as well as playing silly games and enduring lengthy videos from the family archives. Sisters talked deep into the night. Cousins were reunited with cousins. Brother-in-laws shared devotions. Dad and Mom watched over each scene with obvious delight. The purpose of our reunion was to celebrate the event of my parents fiftieth wedding anniversary. How blessed we are to have such a godly heritage! As Psalms 61:5 states, thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. My favorite memory of our days gathered together is of Tuesday evening. Every seat in the living room was taken, with the dining room table holding the overflow of children. We all opened our Bibles and one of the uncles gave devotions from Isaiah. At that point, from youngest to oldest, each of us gave testimony of our salvation. Ten year old Ben was first; followed by Danielle and Kelsey, then Jessica and Andrew. One by one, each of the thirteen grandchildren present gave witness of the details of their salvation. They told where they were saved and how old they were when they invited the Lord into their heart. Their parents each followed telling how the Lord had saved them and led them to be pastors and missionaries. Finally, their grandparents each recounted how they were saved in the early days of their fifty year marriage and the results of that decision literally sat in front of them. The heritage that we have has allowed us to be presented Christ all the days of our lives. This heritage has given us confidence in His Word to guide us in our daily decisions. This godly heritage has protected us from the lures of the world and the baggage that comes with sins that harm your body and scar your mind. Ben was only ten and may not have understood just how blessed he is, but he will always remember that family vacation with Grandma and Grandpa and the night he was called on first to give his testimony.
