A Tsunami & Earthquake awareness campaign will be held in St. - TopicsExpress

A Tsunami & Earthquake awareness campaign will be held in St. Kitts & Nevis, from Monday 22nd September to Friday 26th September 2014, with activities in both islands, with the organizational support of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Nevis Disaster Management Department (NDMD). Tsunami & Earthquake experts, Dr. Joan Latchman (seismologist from UWI Seismic Research Centre) and Christa von Hillebrandt-Andrade (Manager US/Caribbean Tsunami Warning Program) will be presenters at a public meeting on Thursday afternoon, 25th September at 1:30 pm at the Anglican Church Hall, Charlestown. Stakeholders, media houses and the general public are invited to attend. The event will be carried live on the Internet via our NDMD website at nevisdm and on our new cutting edge and real-time Mobile App at ndmd.mobapp.at/ Given that a large earthquake is predicted (Magnitude >= 8.0) within the Caribbean region, it is imperative that we become aware and know what to do when, not if, such an event occurs and the possible aftermath, large Tsunami waves. Remember, Nevis previously experienced a large Tsunami event at Jamestown, our former Capital. High & Primary Schools will be the focus on Thursday morning (25 Sept) and all day Friday (26th Sept) respectively. Radio interviews are being planned for Wednesday evening (17 Sept) and Thursday evening (18 Sept), with public interaction - details to be provided. A Live TV program is proposed for ZIZ TV on Tuesday 23rd August (8pm to 10pm) with a simultaneous broadcast in Nevis via Caribbean Cable Communications Nevis on Channel 6. Call-in opportunities will be available to the Nevis public. The broadcast will also be available on ZIZ Online. Live audio should be available on our website at nevisdm and on our NDMD Mobile App at ndmd.mobapp.at/ Other activities are planned for Nevis and St. Kitts - details will be provided shortly.
