A Vietnam vet who served in my unit in Vietnam asked that I look - TopicsExpress

A Vietnam vet who served in my unit in Vietnam asked that I look into accompanying him and several of those Seabees that served with him on a return trip to Vietnam. I said that I would be more than happy to do the project for free if I could find funding for a student journalist and myself. The project would be to follow a group of Vietnam veterans as they return to the places they served in Vietnam in the 1960s. Some veterans want to go back to places they had been stationed. The objective is to capture the Vietnam veteran’s experience, the emotion and the healing that can come with a trip of this kind. Funding in the amount of $11,000 is requested for a team of two for travel from Pittsburgh, Pa. to Los Angeles, then to Vietnam with a group of 10-20 traveling with Vietnam Battlefield Tours, A non-profit organization. The need to documentation of this trip is many fold, first it will serve as a memory container that can be stored in the Seabee Museum in Port Hueneme California. It will be available for researchers and former veterans to watch and listen to the stories of those who served in Vietnam. This recording on DVD will also perform what I believe is a healing of those who have been reluctant to talk about their experiences in Vietnam. The transference of private memory to become public memory is in itself a healing that many veterans of the Vietnam War are searching for. The faces, sounds and sights of the tour will be captured and then edited into a 1 hour DVD, possible for submission to a television distribution organization and or web delivered platform. This is the reason I am writing to ask your help. If you or someone you know that would like to help fund this project, in exchange for a donation I will mail you a DVD when they are produced (August 2015) and your name will be included in a special thank you. Please let me know if you can help. There is a December 8 date for me to register for the trip and submit $500.00 deposit. That is the immediate need; the rest of the funds can come in January and February. The actual trip is March 8-22, 2015. I have also registered the project with Hatchfund. hatchfund.org/project/return_to_the_battlefields_a_vietnam_veterans_return_to_vietnam
