A WELCOME ADDRESS PRESENTED BY THE STATE CHAIRMAN, NATIONAL YOUTH COUNCIL OF NIGERIA (NYCN) ANAMBRA STATE CHAPTER, COMRADE FRANK MADUKA, JP ON THE OCCASION OF THE GRAND FINALLY OF HER THREE DAY RETREAT TAGGED, CELEBRATION OF EXCELLENCE, AT J.JUMAC HOTEL, AWKA, ON THE 14TH OF MARCH, 2014. PROTOCOLS. It is with immense joy, humility and gratitude that I on behalf of the Anambra State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), welcome you to her year 2014 three day youth retreat tagged Celebration of Excellence today the 14th of March, at J.Jumac Hotel, Awka. Before I proceed, its important to remind us that the NYCN which was established in 1964 and charged with the mandate of policy formulation and implementation on issues bordering on youth development in Nigeria has come a long way. And looking at how far weve come, its clear that the realization of this mandate has been pursued vigorously by the Council in Anambra State. The State Chapter of the National Youth Council provides the umbrella under which different shades of youth organizations aggregate their shared interests and forge a common front in tackling the challenges militating against our collective advancement towards the future we all cherish to attain. It therefore bears no repetition that the Council under the present leadership has demonstrated uncommon commitment in ensuring that this noble mandate comes to fruition. The point must be stressed here that those of us who already have the privilege and who aspire to drive the affairs of the youth must realize and constantly remind ourselves that our duties are defined and given much meaning by our examples than our talks. It logically follows that the future which belongs to the youths cannot amount to any thing if the youths themselves do not consciously adopt and align themselves to living a life that can guarantee and safeguard this future. The statement we are struggling to lay bare is that our future is defined mostly by the decisions we make in our youthful age. This consciousness has propelled this years retreat to provide the leadership of the Council the ample privilege of reassessing our values, our priorities and principles with a view to bringing them in line with those eternal principles of success which has been drawn by our great leaders of old and which we must toe if we must keep the flag flying and keep the fire burning. This journey so far has been defined by many learning curves, depressing experiences and daunting challenges. It is however heart-warming to not that these difficulties are not insurmountable and should be seen not as a stumbling block but rather stepping stone into our collective dreamland of bounty and plenty. At this juncture, it is pertinent to note that the modest achievements recorded by the council leadership so far could not have been a reality without the cordial synergy between itself and the youth-friendly government of His Excellency, Mr. Peter Obi who in his legendary magnanimity and unequalled love for the youths has graciously offered innumerable support and fatherly guidance to the Council to enable it discharge its mandate more effectively. Our amiable outgoing governor should be saluted for his uncommon vision, patriotic zeal, outshining diligence and irrevocable commitment to the advancement of Anambra Youth, which he has been driving through many youth-friendly policies. In a sense, this forms the cardinal theme of this retreat, Celebration of Excellence. No matter your shade of opinion, ideological persuasion or political affiliation, one fact that cant be denied is that Gov. Peter Obi is the most performing governor in Nigeria. By his sheer administrative wizardry, Anambra has become a model for transformation in Africa. OKWUTE NDI IGBO NILE, DAALU. His Excellency Sir, the Youth of Anambra state do not have a permanent youth house yet, we the youth of Anambra state have a dream of having a model youth house named after Our late literary icon prof. Chinua Achebe, Sir we will be glad if this is included in your record of achievements as you go.We equally thank you for giving us a vibrant Commissioner for Youth in the person of Dr. Edozie Aroh whose commitment to our welfare remains unparralled in the history of the Youth Ministry of our State. He acquitted himself very well and inspired the Council to operate on higher principles rather than toeing the path of least resistance. To you our Dear Governor-Elect Chief (Dr.) Willie Obiano, we have no doubt that your passion for the youth would be brought to bear in the affairs of the Council. We already have demonstrable evidence that with you on the saddle, the fortunes of the Council can only continue to grow. We heartily welcome you and pledge to work harmoniously with your Forward Ever policies of continuity of good governance in the State. Our successful gathering today bears eloquent testimony to our burning desire to re-strategize in order to meet the yearnings of our modern day society. This retreat is therefore timely and a right step in the right direction. I therefore most respectfully, call on each and every one of us to maintain the productive disposition required to get the best out of this retreat which promises to be refreshing, regenerative and rejuvenating. Our ability to tap into the enormous potentials inherent in this retreat will surely mark a watershed and a defining moment in our arduous journey. It is my most sincere expectation therefore, that the outcome of this retreat will provide us with the much-needed road-map to our future glory even as we place our youthful age into the safe hands of our Creator who has been our help in ages past and who alone can perfect our heart desires. Once again, I welcome you all to this epoch occasion and thank you for honouring our invitation. God bless the National Youth Council of Nigeria God bless Anambra Youths God bless our dear State. And God bless Nigeria.
