A bishop then must be blamesless , the husband of one wife , vigilant , sober , of good behavior , given to hospitality , apt to teach ; Not given to wine , no striker , not greedy if filthy lucre ; but patient , not a brawler , not covetous ; One that ruleth well his own house , having his children in subjection with all gravity ; ( For if a man know not how to rule his own house , how shall he take care of the church of God? ) 1 Tinothy 3:2,3,4,5. Bishop - a superintendent, preacher. Blameless - not arrested. Inculpable. Inculpable - free from guilt or blame. Husband - individual male. Vigilant - discreet Discreet - having or showing good judgement and restraint. Sober - sound (in mind), self-controlled. Hospitality - fond of guests. Teach - instructive Instructive - providing useful information or knowledge. Striker - a smitter. Smitter - someone who delivers a blow, a punch. Brawler - peaceable. Covetous - unavaricious Unavaricious - not avaricious.
