A bit of video footage from the canyon rescue operation near Mt Wilson this morning. With the long weekend upon us, it is likely there will be a significant increase in the number of people venturing into the bush over the coming days. We want to take this opportunity to remind everyone about Think Before You TREK. Your safety is our priority! - Take adequate supplies for your intended activity, including supplies to sustain you in the event that things do not go to plan. A first aid kit, warm & wet weather clothing, extra water & food/snacks and a light source/torch are some items that should be considered essential. - Register your planned activity with a responsible person, including what time you plan to return. Writing down your intended trip is a good idea. You can lodge a trip intention form at Blue Mountains Police Stations, Tourist Information Centres or National Parks. - Emergency Beacons (PLBs) are available free of charge at the above outlets. These are not a replacement for good planning and preparation, but can save lives in an emergency in remote areas. - Keep to your intended trip/route. In the event of an emergency, it can make it much more difficult for rescuers to find you if you arent where youre expected to be. For more info visit trek.nsw.gov.au
