A bittersweet day today as we paid our final respects to my dear Aunt Marg who passed away Sept. 29 at the proud age of 97. An emotional and spiritually uplifting memorial service was held at Grace Anglican Church, Brantford, very well attended by many family & friends. She was a grand lady who leaves a lifetime of warm, treasured memories to those of us fortunate enough to have shared her life. Ill never forget her deep freeze with its seemingly endless supply of ice cream for the most wonderful homemade milkshakes (who knew how much richer they tasted with a raw egg added in the blender), the magic she created in the form of a Mary Maxim sweater for seven-year-old me who, when asked what design I would like her to make me replied Turtles, Kites and Fire-Breathing Dragons. It was awesome! I can close my eyes and almost touch it still. Glorious summer days spent sailing the Lake of Two Mountains on her and Uncle Wallys cabin cruiser Maggie and later, as a young teenager sailing the Saint Lawrence between Montreal and Hamilton with my cousin Charlie aboard KAWAMAH, the 32 ft. trimaran my uncle built in their backyard. As a little kid sneaking out of bed to peek in awe into the wonderfully festive grown-up world of New Years parties, magical Christmases ... I thank God for her love and presence in my life. I am so much richer for it.
