A breath of fresh air may be difficult to come by for residents in the region, according to the American Lung Association’s recently released State of the Air 2014 report. The report places the Pittsburgh metropolitan area at sixth worst in the nation for small particle pollution, and 21st for ozone pollution, or smog. While no data was collected for Fayette County specifically, the report gave neighboring Westmoreland County a failing grade in both particle pollution and high ozone days.
