A brilliant reader just asked me a fascinating question, "What is romantic renaissance? How does it help poets to achieve new heights? Just by using marginalized metaphors and myths...! Pls. Elaborate sir." This is the cursory of what I have got to say about this: "In fact, What I plainly think is, for a century, Nepal has produced a huge body of what I call PROTEST LITERATURE. This literature re-echoes facts we see everywhere (marginalization, anti-establishment, poverty, bourgeois rule, representation, conflict, poverty...) . My concerns are, if we excavate something TYPICALLY OURS, may be we become fresh and new (new to the world...). And to seek something TYPICALLY NEPALI, we might fall back upon our myth, our yet-to-be-written micro-history, our folk ways of living... and so on, as a very rich and perennial source of living metaphors. And this will require us to have an attitude attuned with the fascination of the PAST. This will mean, we need to reinvent our past for a modern (or even prophetic) theme. This is where my claim for the need of a romantic renaissance hinges on. I have more to say; I shall write somewhere.
