A change of command is a military tradition that represents a formal transfer of authority and responsibility for a unit from one commanding or flag officer to another. The passing of colors, standards, or ensigns from an outgoing commander to an incoming one ensures that the unit and its soldiers is never without official leadership, a continuation of trust, and also signifies an allegiance of soldiers to their units commander. Great symbolism is attached to the ceremonial aspects of a change of command. An inspection and review of soldiers, gun salutes, as well as a military band will often be incorporated into the ceremony.[1]. Wikipedia ... This morning I awoke to the heavenly sounds of an Army Band! Walking up our driveway in my Boson Red Sox Baseball Cap I found a Change of Command Ceremony Starting. I was standing by my husbands side in 2005 when he relinquished command of 320th MP Battalion and what a site and humbling experience to behold. Many treasured memories filled my mind of the Great Work, Dedication and Success that my husband ( The Commander) and his Soldiers brought to their Battalion and Our Country! With Douglas retiring in Dec 2011 and 31 years of Service and obtaining the rank of Full Bird Colonel I thought this tradition would never be witnessed with these eyes again. I was wrong. For those of you that have not had the opportunity to experience such majesty please enjoy the videos and pictures.
