A christian came into the atheism subreddit today and posed some honest questions, here are my answers. Im interested in what may be some of you guys answers. 1-Why are you guys Atheists? If you knew a God existed (say He presents Himself) would you believe He exists? I have never been convinced a god exists. Also the more i learn about the subject the more it becomes apparent that its just invented mythology and I ask why we even treat it seriously. If I knew a god existed I would have to believe I am not in the business of being dishonest. 2-Were you at one point a Christian? What made you change? Do you blame the church? I was never a follower, so I didnt really change, though i did go through all of the typical roman catholic steps of baptism, first communion and confirmation. All as formalities i was never a believer. I blame the church for a lot of things but my atheism is nowhere near that list. I tend to accept things once enough evidence has been presented and have always really functioned that way. 3-If a connection with a God could only bring you so much to gain, and nothing to lose, why be an Atheist? I see no gain. There is nothing that I can get from god or religion that I cant get through secular means. 4-Is it possible that a God has allowed for humanity to learn about its environment to a certain extent? (Meaning: a creationist POV, God controls the extent to which man makes discoveries) I suppose anything is possible!?! This is kind of a have you stopped beating your wife yet? question, isnt it? 5-Are you angry at a God? Meaning, you voice harsh opinions on this subreddit due to bad experience? I am not angry at god since I do not accept his existance, I am however angry with god being used as a tool the way it is to remove rights and freedoms from people and weasel things into childrens brains that they then have to overcome later in life rather than just learning things in an honest way the first time around.
