A citizen of Richland County commends Sheriff Leon Lott and Richland County Sheriff’s Department Deputies: Officer_name: All Officers incident_description: In lieu of all that is happening in the media with the focus being on law enforcement and African American males...I posted this on my facebook page... One more thing...I must say this....my son suffers from paranoid schizophrenia...and there have been times when he has literally got into a scuffle with Richland County Police...at one point there were so many officers called out you would have thought Bin Laden was alive and in my neighborhood...and yet every single time, they have treated me and my son with respect and real concern. They have worked with me to try to get my son the help he so desperately needed. Under the circumstances there were many times an officer could have pulled out his weapon and said in all honesty that he felt his life was threaten by my son. No.... instead they would wrestle him to the ground....So I want to be clear, everyone that wears a uniform is not a creep or a jerk...there are many officers who take to heart to protect and serve....and yes I also realize there are some officers who should not wear the badge let alone have access to a weapon. Every time I see what happened in Ferguson and around the country...I think about my son. Will he be next.....Leadership starts at the top...and I give much thanks and much respect to Sheriff Lott for his example of how law enforcement should work! FORM NAME: Commend an Officer
