A commemorative wreathlaying ceremony was held at the Australian War Memorial this morning, marking the 74th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The Battle of Britain is the name given to the air combat between the RAF and the German Luftwaffe from July to October 1940. Today’s Last Post Ceremony will tell the story of one of the Australians who took part. Flight Lieutenant Paterson Clarence Hughes, DFC, of the 234 Squadron, RAF, was born in Numeralla and was the top-scoring air ace before being killed in a dogfight with a German Dornier plane. You can watch the live stream of the Last Post Ceremony on our website from 4.55pm AEST live.awm.gov.au/
