A comment from the group admin again: This group is about saving Mill Pond Park from the irreparable damage that would be caused by the construction of a community center on the Willard Avenue field. It is not about Bob Korpak. It is not about Al Mortensen. It is not about cheap shots at politicians (even when they deserve it) or at those favoring the project or at other members of this group. Shortly after my return from Vermont (where I proudly wore my SMPP t-shirt and answered questions about the issue even though those asking couldnt vote in Newington) I ran into three people Ive know for a long time but hadnt seen for a while. As we discussed the referendum (and again I was wearing my t-shirt) all three used the word boorish to describe the manner in which some of us were expressing our opposition to the project. Those who have acted or spoken in such a matter need to stop and think about the ripple effect. How theyre perceived - especially if its a negative perception - gets told to others. And that may very well end up having an impact on our efforts on September 9. I am certainly not saying that the referendum supporters are blameless in this regard, but there is no need to stoop to that level. So as we continue to spread the word to get out the vote on September 9, remember that the messenger is as important as the message.
