A consideration for Canadians. Do you have any idea how Superior Court justices are appointed in this country? I bet not. We have no idea who these people are - and they are appointed by the Prime Minister of the country (with advice from a blue ribbon panel). What is a blue ribbon panel? A prime minister with a majority of seats - 39% (popularity of 29%) of the voters and 23% of eligible voters chooses Senators (weve seen this act) and justices. No other western democracy permits such an amateur act. In the United States they elected judges - in Sweden you must go through a specific process to become a justice from the outset. This Prime Minister has appointed 53 justices in BC since 2006 - with many of them ignoring Supreme Court of Canada decisions - including Dunsmuir v New Brunswick (2008), a decision which impacts on workers rights and injuries. This Prime Minister openly criticized the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada and now wants to expand the powers of his unelected RCMP police force to seizure and detention without judicial oversight. Is this type of leadership good for Canada? There are corner churches operating with more democracy than we have - it is little wonder the United Nations kicked Canada off the Security Council - our legal system apparently has no credibility. You got that right.
