A controversial art exhibition (Exhibit B) featuring black actors chained and in cages to depict the horror of slavery has been closed by the Barbican gallery following a vociferous campaign of protest. Exhibit B critiques the ‘human zoos’ and ethnographic displays that showed Africans as objects of scientific curiosity through the 19th and early 20th centuries, however, protesters have said that any good intentions were completely outweighed by the scene of degradation and racism.
