A conversation needs two speakers, each speaking one at a time, but both listening all of the time. A conversation can stand on one leg, but it wobbles & lacks balance. A conversation with two legs can actually walk around & go someplace. If both speak at once the conversation thrashes about drowning in words. Not listening when someone is talking with you communicates that you imagine them as unimportant, uninteresting & not worthy of your time or more accurately, that you over estimate your own value, interest & worth. When each person becomes an empathic, honest, interested speaking/listening leg of the conversation it becomes more than a walk, its a dance.
