A conversation overheard this evening between five 18-20 something “young people” in a beer garden…. YP1: So you know the Bermuda Triangle right? YP2: Yeah……? YP1: Well what does it look like? YP2: Whaddya mean? YP1: Well…. I mean…. What does it LOOK like? YP2: (Laughs) You can’t actually see it!!! YP1: Well….. YP2: It’s not like one them them things they mark the lanes with at the swimming pool !…Is that what you thought then? YP1: NO!! ..... But…...So how do you know if you’re in it then? YP3: (whispers to YP4) What’s the Bermuda Triangle? YP4: (whispers back) It’s a bit of the ocean near America. You’re not supposed to go there. YP3: (Aloud) Why can’t you go there then? YP1: ‘Cos no one ever comes back! YP5: What never? YP2: Well not about 99.5 per cent of the time no. YP1: An’ they’ve never found any ships or planes or anything!.....It’s really weird. YP2: AND they’ve been on the sea bottom and everything. (Pause for siltent contemplation) YP2: So do you like all that conspiracy theory stuff then? YP1: Ooooooh yeah! Don’t get me started! YP2: So what?... Like….No ones ever landed on the moon? YP1: YEAH!!! YP3: (confused) Oh….But I thought Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon? YP2: Well yeah, obviously, but no one’s ever LANDED on it. YP5 : Err…well how come, if he’s walked on it then? YP2: (Proudly) Because it wasn’t the moon was it, it was the Nevada Desert. YP1: YEAH!! YP3: Really ?? YP2: You can tell from the photos. YP1: YEAH !!!!! There was probably more of this, but I got up and left.…In search of strong drink.
