A copy of a recent letter sent to the Moreland mayor & councillors received by Save Coburg. .......... Rezoning - Council and Panning Department need to face the music again : Dear Mayor and Councillors, A spate of recent public meetings have revealed, with respect to Moreland rezoning proposals, massive public objections to and mistrust of Moreland Council s intentions and capacities, and equally (and perhaps even more so) of Moreland CC Planning Departments views, actions and motives. Since it was known in advance how large these public meetings would balloon to, such as the over-attended and emotionally highly charged Estonian House meeting, it is frankly disrespectful that there is repeatedly such a minor turn-out from councillors and senior planners to face their residents, including rate payers. I congratulate those few councillors and planners who have attended; I sincerely hope they conveyed the message of community outrage to the many more who were absent. This is the public of Moreland, with matters of extreme concern to them, so public servants should serve them, not avoid them. This contrasts sharply with meetings I have attended recently at Moonee Ponds town hall which are strongly attended by council and planning representatives, with open and detailed presentations. I suggest at least one future meeting be arranged: 1) at large venue, 2) well canvassed (many had been unaware of previous meetings), 3) with a strong representation of all or most councillors, 4) strong representation of the MCC Planning department, 5) clear formal presentations of what is proposed, especially detailing changes made in the light of the numerous objections and suggestions put forward by residents in the previous large meeting and in written submissions, 6) detailing who the drivers and stakeholders for redevelopment are, 7) what has been locked in behind our back as it were, then 8) face the music of residents opinions---it will be loud. Any major replanning such as this will cause irrevocable change, we need to get it right even if it takes time. We as residents would love to be disabused firstly of the idea than MCC and planners are dancing to their own tune, or state govts tune, or developers tune, and secondly that we are getting the mushroom treatment (kept in the dark and fed bulls---), regardless of residents wishes. Name and address supplied, Moreland resident ~
