A couple of folks said to me recently--We know your passionate about serving the community and helping people--but what experience or knowledge do you have of government? Fair question. My dad was city attorney for 18 years, so I grew up around city hall and attended many council meetings as a boy. As a teenager up through my 30s, I worked in and managed many campaigns from federal, state, county, school and municipal levels. When I was in college, I worked for a year as an intern for US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. I served as a student senator at Eastfield for a year. Ive served on several city boards and commissions including Planning and Zoning and Board of Adjustment. Ive served on several MISD committees including 2 bond steering committees. I played an active role in passing the 4B election in the late 90s. Ive read books in the last couple of years on the inner workings of municipal government and the manager- council form of government. Ive read on and watched numerous documentaries about other older or 1st Suburbs around America and what theyve done to stay prosperous and viable. BUT ........no matter how much experience I have--my heart will always be with the people out in our neighborhoods and with our small business folks. I believe in Mesquite!
