A crisis oriented government needs new crises, because you can only get so much production out of the crisis-du-jour. I think this has a good shot at being one of the next ones: drug resistant bacteria. If this pans out to be as bad as it looks like it could be (or even looks like it pans out), things are going to get ugly. Drug resistant bacteria is real, so its a legitimate crisis (as opposed to, say, global warming). This should go over as well as terrorism did for the publicans. Look how much mileage we got out of that. Homeland Security, TSA, NSA, domestic urban assault troops disguised as police which well lump under the term FBI, drone surveillance, drone warfare... all the tools of fighting terrorists are now all the tools of domestic population control in the hands of statists. And all you have to do to enjoy that heat is be labeled a terrorist by whoever is controlling things at the moment. And we voted for it.
