A discussion. What is the purpose of Red Apron lodges (viz those few that can appoint Grand Stewards)? Are they a tradition or to preserve elitism? In an organisation which tells its members that we prize honour & virtue above the eternal advantages of rank & fortune, how can one lodge have more promotion than another? These lodges, it would seem, have an exclusive membership. Do they have higher than average fees or costs? OR are there sound reasons for having them? Thoughts, please.
