A family had twin boys; alike in every way except that one was an eternal optimist, the other a terrible pessimist. This single difference was the source of endless squabbling. One Christmas Eve, in an attempt to have a peaceful Christmas day, the parents decided to even things out. In the small hours Santa packed the pessimists room with every imaginable toy and game. The optimists room was filled with horse manure. Christmas day dawned, the parents peeked hopefully into the pessimists room and found him sitting amid his new gifts crying bitterly. Baffled the father asked Why are you crying? Because my friends will be jealous and wont talk to me, Ill have to read all the instructions before I can play with anything, Ill constantly need batteries, and all the toys will eventually get broken. sobbed the pessimistic twin. Looking into the optimistic twins room, the parents found him happily digging about in the huge pile of manure. What are you so happy about? the mother asked. To which he replied, Theres got to be a pony in here somewhere!
