A few days ago Ann packed up a little care package for our daughter, Alexis, who is in her finals week at ORU. She responded by posting a really nice thank you on her Facebook page… and a lot of people clicked “like.” There’s a passage in the Bible where Paul has been blessed to receive some sort of gift from his friends in Philippi and he wrote a nice thanks and a sentiment that concluded, “you have done well… it was a perfect time for me to receive it… I wasn’t feeling any particular lack of love but it came when things were a little tough for me and it reminded me that I wasn’t alone!” A little care package. A little gift. A reminder that there are folks out there who are standing with you even if they aren’t physically present. It expresses a lot of love! Who do you know today that you can do a little something for? If you can’t do a little something, maybe you can express your big love another way. And that’s the whole devo message for this day… think of someone, find someone, gift card someone, message someone, call someone, text someone – just get in touch with someone who isn’t really expecting a surprise encouragement! They might be okay without it… but who wants to be “okay” when they can be smiling big, feeling warm, thinking nice, just because you put out a little extra effort! What that little group from Philippi sent Paul, we don’t know, but it evoked great appreciation, a prayer to God, and a testimony among many who were with Paul. The stuff we sent Alexis? Most of it is gone (starving students). But it evoked a word of appreciation and for her mom and dad that lit up their night (blessing returned!). It’s so easy to do – just pick someone – and let the love go! You’re going to feel better for the effort!
