A few days ago, Rep. Vance McAllister, Louisiana Republican and self-described “faith and family” man, was caught on video passionately kissing a staffer – after which he acknowledged that he’d “fallen short” and asked for “forgiveness.” But his fellow Republicans won’t forgive – even though they gave Louisiana Senator David Vitter a free pass in 2007 for hiring hookers (including at least one solicitation from the House floor). Yesterday, Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal – who had rallied to Vitter’s defense -- called on McAllister to step down, as did the chairman of the state GOP. So why the double standard in Louisiana? (A) Its only okay in Louisiana to have an extra-marital affair if you pay for it in the free market. (B) When Vitter was caught, the governor at the time was a Democrat, so if Vitter stepped down the governor would have appointed a Democrat. (C) Vitter is now running for governor, and he and his fellow Louisiana Republicans want to distract attention from his hookers.
