A few facts about the big system next week. This will help clear - TopicsExpress

A few facts about the big system next week. This will help clear up some confusion & hype. 1) Will it get cold? Absolutely! Temperatures next week will be in the lower to middle 30s during the day, with teens and 20s overnight. 2) Will it snow? Yes. Will we see significant snow? Probably not... certainly not widespread. The system will pass overhead or to our north, meaning most of the system precipitation will be rain... NOT snow. Lake effect snow will setup behind the system for Wednesday or Thursday. We could see some accumulation, but its too early to be specific. It all depends on the exact wind direction. If you live outside of the typical lake effect areas, very little snow expected for you. 3) Is this the polar vortex causing the cold? NO. The polar vortex is ALWAYS there. Its a big area of cold air in the arctic. A tropical system between Japan and Alaska is undergoing a physical change, which will make it a strong area of low pressure. As it dives into the United Sates, it grabs a hold of some of that cold air from the arctic (Polar Vortex), helping transport it here. This is COMMON in November. Its usually the month where cooler temperatures becomes the norm. 4) Temperatures next week will likely not break records. Its been colder before, and this sort of weather phenomena has happened in the past. Hope this clears up some concern & confusion. We will be more specific with lake effect snow chances as we get into early Monday. I certainly do not recommend you run to the grocery and stock up. :)
