A few moments after the enemy strafed our ship, a troop ship about a hundred yards off to our right took a bomb hit from a Stuka dive bomber, resulting in many fatalities among the troops of the Third Infantry Division aboard that vessel. One of those killed was Don Stott of Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, a cousin of the girl I eventually married. She lost another cousin, Dons brother Eddie, four months later in Italy and yet another cousin the following June on the Coast of Normandy at a place called Omaha Beach. The Odyssey of an Iron Knight - by Don Evans Veteran Don Evans was flown to Hollywood to share his account of real tank battles in Germany during World War 2. He spoke with actors Brad Pitt and Shia LaBeouf as they prepare for their upcoming film Fury. Don Evans was wounded and captured as a POW when mortar fire hit his tank and blinded him. When US forces liberated the German people from the Nazis, Evans and other POWs were freed to come home. Evans only regained sight in one of his eyes.
