A few short weeks ago, I found myself lamenting publically about Anthonys hardships, so today, I only find it fitting to share in his triumphs as well. The holidays as a whole can add extra stress to an autistic child; with heightened expectations of socializing, sitting on Santas lap, posing for pictures, eating new foods, opening gifts with the appropriate reactions and responses, and general holiday merriment .There are countless social cues that need decoding for our kids, so it takes a lot of practice. This year, I have seen so much growth in Anthony. He participated successfully in several holiday parties, tried quite a few new foods, unwrapped gifts independently for the very first year (not all, but some), wished friends and family Merry Christmas (verbally), sang countless Christmas songs, and the very best part was his genuine excitement (appropriately) playing with his new toys!! This really has been a wonderful year and thank you to everyone that has shared in our joy...
