A few tips to help the beginner locate an old camp site. Locating a site (Camp) varies much upon the lay of your land. The one thing that many have in common is waterways. Whether it was just a small spring or stream for drinking and bathing, or larger creek or river which enabled navigation and trade paths, most sites will be found near old waterways. Where a creek enters into a river is a prime location. The camp itself was usually on higher ground to protect from flooding. The next thing to take into consideration is just how hilly or flat the land is. This makes a huge difference on whether the artifacts are still on land, or washed into the creek or river. To locate a site, look for flint flakes and broken pottery sherds and of course arrowheads, or other stone tools.
