A few weeks ago I made a post that sparked a lot of anger. So BEFORE you read this let me say: I have NOTHING personal against marijuana smokers. I understand your political arguments for it and all your views are legitimate. My only purpose in posting the following statement is to make ALL people reading this aware of a situation…. My good friend KEVIN who runs BLACK SHEEP Café’ in Illinois has a relative who is currently in potential danger along with the innocent families & children of her town in Mexico. The reason I am posting this is because Marijuana trafficking in to the USA is one of the most economically lucrative enterprises for the Mexican gangs / organized crime community. Now, maybe your view is that pot should be legal, maybe you think it is unfair that it’s not legal, maybe legalizing it would stop a lot of this violence etc…. You can all send me 1,000 comments & messages telling me this and it won’t do anything because I have already said 1,000,000 times that I think you all make valid points. However, your personal views about whether it is legal, illegal, or should be legal does NOT matter to a parent whose child is killed in this war. Your personal views do not change what is happening at the moment. That is the ONLY point I am trying to make. I’m NOT saying you are a bad person or that weed shouldn’t be legalized. If this were AMERICAN children being killed because of pot sales in another country then people would be OUTRAGED. AGAIN: if legalizing it is the way to stop the violence then fine; but RIGHT NOW THAT IS NOT THE CASE. Just because it “should” be legal does not magically change the fact that your money goes directly to the drug lords. Your activities are every bit as much of an exploitation of human beings as the activities of the capitalist environment which you blame for taking your right to smoke. Now I also get messages from people who only smoke home grown marijuana & that’s fine. HOWEVER…..the overwhelming majority of Americans who smoke show up & ask “How do I get it & what does it cost’’? Or if it’s a week night, they call someone who calls someone who calls someone else. I have NEVER once seen a person question someone as to what country it was grown in and how it got here. So if you grow your own or buy from a USA grower then there is no need to get mad at me. If you buy whatever you can get then you don’t need to get mad at me either. I am not judging you or saying you are a bad person, I’m also not sitting around all day analyzing what my friends are doing so stop being paranoid. I don’t care about what you are doing, it’s your life. I am about solving problems, NOT making people feel uncomfortable. Look at it this way; if YOUR child were killed by a gang member over a drug which is illegal in another country, would it really matter to you that people funded those gangs based on the premise that they think the law is stupid? Yeah, maybe it is a stupid law…. but until it changes, THIS is how it is. I’m sorry if it is unfair, but what is happening to these children is unfair as well. So having said that, here is Kevin’s post from the other day: “As some of you know I have an aunt in matamoros, Mexico. The ongoing drug war between the cartels has escalated and the zetas and the gulf cartel are about to go to have it in matamoros. The city is on lockdown, schools are closed, and children are being forced by the cartels to fight. Prayers for peace and justice are needed. My aunt and my family would appreciate it very much. This is definitely a major crisis and much of it is fueled by the American demand for narcotics”.
