A few years back,at the Harbour Fest,a few friends and I pulled an all nighter at the beer tent.Claude faded into the night at about 3 am.As daylight broke,he reappeared from his boat,rubber boots with aDon King hair do.With his usual calm demeanor he strutted across the wharf and looked into the westward sunlit wind and sat downGonna be a nice day I think.Hope more people stick around tonight,you guys left me hangin here last night all by myself,so I went to bed.It would be fitting tribute to replacingHarbourfestwithMayorfestas his presence personified the festival itself. TheMayor always partied in a jovial,funloving and respectful manner,never aggressive unless you spoke negatively about friends or family.(or the gadgets on his boat).The gentle charisma of his disposition paved a lifelong harmony of putting at ease when meeting him for the first time.The quality of life long experiences,created an icon that Desscouse,Isle Madame or Cape Breton will never replace.From the age of 5,getting on the first and lowest step on the school bus and being greeted by that smile made a school day more bearable. To Sir Poiriers family,no words can bring relief for their loss.Still,I extend my familys condolences.Rest assured that he sails in the spirit world smiling down with pride at the family he raised with his wife,instilling in them,the qualities he possessed.If anyone deserved it,hes resting in peace.
