A follow up on the Aussie story i posted yesterday. Lining up a terrace Talk interview later. Hi Weeshie, Thanks very much for your emails. I was unaware of the Kerry trip to Australia in 1970. The story, particularly the proficiency of the Kerry players with the Sherrin (the oval ball), is extraordinary. That trip sounds worthy of a documentary in its own right! Neil “Knuckles” Kerle turned 80 last week, and was as animated as ever in his media appearances in Melbourne with Barassi and Skilton. The cross-over between Gaelic Football and Australian Rules is fascinating, especially in the early days. Each code has offered, and continues to offer, a great deal to the other. I am fascinated that these separate worlds not only came together, but the competitions worked well. I am also fascinated to learn about the deep and rich history underpinning your game and the GAA. I am gearing up for the start of the new season here; and I am going to enjoy watching blokes like Pearce Hanley, Ciaran Sheehan and Tommy Walsh with my new understanding of your game and its history. I have been looking at the Galahs trip for a while. I wrote this article late last year: footyalmanac.au/big-hs-first-pack-of-galahs/ We are having a lot of fun doing our documentary. The players are excited; and we are heading up to Sydney next week to interview Harry Beitzel, the doyen of football radio commentary in Melbourne in the 1960s and 1970s. I would be delighted to an interview regarding our project (and the 1967 tour itself). I look forward to hearing from you and, in due course, speaking with you. Kind regards, Rob.
