A foreign company (Rio Tinto of Australia and I think UK) has been paying large sums to US legislators for years, trying to get possession of rich copper-bearing land on the San Carlos Apache reservation. Some of us knew Sash who came from San Carlos. And the giveaway has been slipped into a defense authorization bill at the last minute. I have heard opinions on both sides for a long time, about money buying US politicians, and those opinions usually take for granted that it is rich Americans who are buying those legislators (and judges etc). But money traffic is so well hidden now, that we dont know how much Chinese money for example, goes to politicians who will then kill or water down legislation unfavorable to China... or Saudi Arabia and others in the Middle East. If congressmen and senators are for sale, they can be for sale to anybody who comes up with the money. Look at Adelson who is probably a conduit for Chinese money used to influence US elections. This is karma for the US that has been a long time coming -- since WWII and to some extent before that, we bought up political leaders and controlled elections in many countries and they let us have what we wanted.
