A former governor of Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala, in this interview with some journalists, speaks on his plans for 2015, the crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), among other issues. KUNLE ODEREMI AND DARE ADEKANMBI bring excerpts: (This is not the full version; I decided to bring this out.) At the twilight of your administration, you caused the law guidng the operation of Obas to be amended such that the permanence of the Alaafin as the council chairman became rotational. Your booby trap seems to be effective because the council has not been able to sit after their inaugural meeting which ended in a fiasco. Let me confess here. I doubt the sustainability of that law because it has no good historical background. But my colleagues and I decided to do that because we felt we should do it. But after leaving office, I realised that the law would not be able to stand the test of time. If I had another opportunity, I would champion the amendment of that law and canvass for a reverse to the status quo ante pre-2011. Are you saying this because you have now made up with the Alaafin? Who told you that? Some said you amended the law against Alaafin’s interest because he did not support your re-election bid. Alaafin is not a policitician. What is your relationship with the Alaafin? My relationship with him and every other person is cordial. He is my father and I cannot fight him. I am Yoruba man properly brought up and cannot fight an elderly person.
