A friend got me thinking about the Hobby Lobby case before SCOTUS. - TopicsExpress

A friend got me thinking about the Hobby Lobby case before SCOTUS. If you think this case is about contraception and religious freedom, I would submit that you are wrong. To me, this case seems to be about a consistent effort to give corporations the same rights as humans. They are not humans. They are a code-created entity. An it. Through rulings like Citizens United, we lose our ability to have actual humans (even corrupt ones) run our our democracy. If Hobby Lobby Stores, Inc. wants to forego the benefits of being a c-corp and become a sole proprietor, I think theyre position would be tenable. But thats not what they want. They want to have all the benefits of being human (voting, etc.) with the in-human protections of a c-corp (limited liability, etc). Classic privatize profits, socialize losses. The roots of these cases (there are actually two before the Court) are much more interesting than the soundbites. Theyre trying to apply a law that was meant for individual humans to corporations. If we support companies like this and dont voice our frustration with the system, we are part of the problem. We all do it to a degree, but we should at least not live in denial that our actions as citizens dont have consequences.
