A friend of mine, after two weeks in the hospital, has been diagnosed with the first case of West Nile Virus in Bent County. This is very serious. The CDC is involved. He is now undergoing physical therapy to learn to walk again, and speech therapy. He had viral encephalopathy. So, to all of my friends in Bent County: it is (obviously) transmitted by mosquitoes, so if you are outside at dusk or after dark you should wear long sleeved shirts and pants and use mosquito repellent liberally. I cant express how serious this is. He was near death, and if he hadnt been transferred to St. Anthonys in Denver he probably would have died. Please pass this information around.
