A friend of our family has been diagnosed with leukemia. He needs a bone marrow transplant within the next 5 months. Bell Shoals Baptist Church is hosting a donor match search on October 23rd (info below). If you would help by being tested and/or promoting this event to others, it would be a tremendous blessing. Bill and I joined the registry several years ago and the process was so simple. Youll need to answer a few questions, provide contact info and have the inside of your cheek swabbed. Its very easy and non-invasive. A few minutes of your time could truly save a life! Please join us on October 23 from 5-7pm in the Fellowship Hall. Thank you for your help! A CURE EXISTS For people with life-threatening blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma or other diseases. Be The Match® connects patients with their donor match for a life-saving marrow transplant. The focus of Be The Match® is to reach potential donors ages 18-44. Research shows that younger donors are best for patients because they provide the greatest chance for transplant success. Doctors request donors in the 18-44 age group 90 percent of the time. If you are between the ages of 45 and 60, you will not be able to join the registry at Bell Shoals’ matching drive, however you can join the registry online at bethematch.org/join. Joining the Be The Match Registry® is easy In Person: Wednesday, Oct. 23, 5:00-7:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall OR - Online: bethematch.org/Join On October 23, all you need to do is: 1. Complete a registration form with contact information, health information and a signed agreement to join the Be The Match® Registry. Bring along: o Personal identification (such as a drivers license) o Contact information for two family members or friends who would know how to reach you in the future if your contact information changes 2. Give a swab of cheek cells to be tissue-typed. Be The Match® will use the results to match you to patients. 3. Thats it! Youll be listed on the registry -- where doctors turn when their patient needs a bone marrow transplant and there is no matching donor in the patients family. Have questions? Get answers at bethematch.org or by calling Marc Silver at 727-329-1952.
