A friend posted this on the PMs Wall. Thanks Sandra. WELL I DID IT! - vented my still simmering rage at Abbotts utter ineptitude on his own page - although I seriously doubt it will remain there for long. This is the text of my comment - (Please feel free to re-post it if you wish.): ................................ Time for a reality check, Mr. Abbott. your impression of Australians views regarding the Japanese in WWII is so far off it might as well be a line from a fantasy movie. How dare you make such a claim on our behalf - not only is it unctiously sycophantic, it is utterly untrue! And demonstrates either complete insensitivity, or abyssmal ign orance of very recent history. ! WE admired it, did we? Mr. Abbott, you werent even a blip on the radar when my Dad, and tens of thousands of others fought the bloody Japanese military to a standstill in the Pacific - even as that same army murdered and enslaved civilians by the million. Have you ever read anything about the Japanese invasion of China? Of Malaya? Of Burma? Do you really think the people of Guam, of Honolulu, of Singapore - or DARWIN - ADMIRED the Japanese military? Disagreed with their objectives? Do you think the POWs in Changi, the Americans on the Bataan Death March, the tens of thousands of enslaved civilian prisoners - including many Australian women - admired the Japanese military? Do you think that China, which suffered over 20 million civilian deaths at the hands of the Imperial Japanese military admired that organisation? Do you sincerely think their behaviour in any of those situations was honourable? Japan, although now an ally of sorts, and three generations away from the mindset that ultimately brought them to catastrophe at Hiroshima, has still not officially acknowledged its genocidal behaviour in either China, or its inhumane activities during WWII. They do not include it in school history lessons, or accept the reasons for the absolute nature of their defeat. Diplomacy is a necessary part of international politics, Mr. Abbot - but expedient sycophancy is a contemptibly inept behaviour, when simple good manners to a visiting Head of Govenment is all that is necessary. What you said to PM Abe is the equivalent of informing Angela Merkel that you admired the Nazi milirtary, even if you didnt quite see eye to eye with the Final Solution! (I am assuming this will be deleted by the first page administrator to read it - but it would be wise to heed it. I am not trhe only person to find this latest evidence of the PMs inepotitude both shaming and enraging. Australians are far, far from being universal in their support for Mr. Abbott. He really needs to thnk before he opens his mouth in future.)
