A friend tagged me on this. My response to her was so long that I figured Id throw it up on my wall. Stop incentivizing the rich. Walmart hoards an enormous amount of money among a very select few while paying its workers next to nothing. Its greed, plain and simple, yet we allow this every year for them and other companies who DONT need the money. On top of the greed is the fact that these people cant even afford to make a living by working there, so they have to be supported by social aid programs. Why do we accept this as a cultural norm? Part of the problem is generational; there are still too many old duffers sitting around crying well go back to college and get a real job! This is probably the biggest load of bollocks of all. First of all, college is a business too - and its not cheap to get in, especially now that our lovely government has turned THAT into another profit-making opportunity too. Second - not everyone is cut out for college, nor do they just hand out jobs the second you graduate. Third - opponents to this seem to have forgotten that people cant go bag groceries anymore and make a living or put themselves through school. It is INSANELY expensive to live here, and its getting exponentially worse every year. If the middle class is struggling, how in the hell is someone going to survive making $8 a hour? Should everyone move back in with their parents? Finally - who the hell is supposed to do these jobs, then? People can make fun of the caste system in India all they like, but the reality is that we have one here based on money. Everyone looks down on everyone else instead of helping people who arent as fortunate. Get a second or third job and Go back to college isnt the damned answer. We need to start treating these people like human beings.
